Carrying Heroes is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in January 2021 in Redding, California, with a simple but powerful mission: rescuing horses from slaughter while providing life-changing stress relief for veterans, first responders, emergency workers and their immediate family members—completely free of charge.
The horses in our program have their own stories of survival. Rescued from holding pens bound for slaughter, they often arrive severely malnourished, injured, neglected, and fighting for their lives. As these horses heal, they form a unique bond with the heroes who care for them while also giving hope. "If he can wake up each day and keep fighting to live... so can I."

There are an average 17 veteran suicide deaths each day and suicide risk is higher in those with PTSD.
1 in 4 military children have seriously considered suicide.

Suicide is the leading cause of death in firefighters.
EMT's have an average career span of only 5 years due to stress.
1 in 4 dispatchers have PTSD.

Suicide is the leading cause of death in law enforcement, and officers are 3 times as likely to die of suicide than in the line of duty.
1 in 4 have symptoms of burnout, depression, anxiety, or PTSD.
By reducing stress in those we serve, we can help change the statistics above. But we need your help! Carrying Heroes is able to rescue horses and help heroes because of the generosity of people just like you.
